Which departments offer elective rotations?

Anesthesiology, Dermatology (LLU and UCR only), Access Clinic (UCR only), Emergency Medicine, Family Medicine, General Surgery, Internal Medicine, Ophthalmology, Orthopedic Surgery, Pediatrics, Rheumatology, and Neurological Surgery . Please note that these are subject to change at any time.

What happens after I submit an application?

Please allow at least 2-3 weeks for the service/department to respond to your application via Clinician Nexus.

What if I don't receive a decision after 3 weeks?

You must contact the GME office to request an update from the service.

What are the requirements to apply?

Every service has different requirements. The most common requirements are a Letter of Good Standing, Curriculum Vitae, Medical School Transcripts, Personal Statement, USMLE Transcript, and if you are interested in applying to their residency program.

What are the onboarding requirements?

After you submit your application, please access your dashboard in Clinician Nexus and click on the rotation card. You will see all your onboarding requirements under application steps.

Do you offer housing?

No, RUHS does not offer housing during your rotation. You may contact the GME office at ruhs_rotations@ruhealth.org for current listings that have been made available by residents in our community.

I need to request time off during my rotation, who do I need to notify?

Please notify the service secretary or coordinator regarding time off as they create the rotation schedules for students.

If I have alternative dates for the same service, should I apply for each elective block?

No. To avoid multiple applications, please submit application for your preferred dates, but in the comment section please enter your alternative dates so the service can determine which dates are available.

Do student's receive meal allowance during the rotation?

No, medical students will not receive meal allowance.

My school doesn't have an affiliation agreement in file with RUHS, will this be an issue?

No, we will process a one-time letter agreement with your school for the rotation.

Can Nurse Practitioner students complete preceptorships at our CHCs?

Yes, with preceptor’s approval.

What should I expect on my first day of rotation?

ALL students will receive an email from the GME office one week before your scheduled start date with specific reporting instructions. If you did not receive this email, please email us at ruhs_rotations@ruhealth.org
