Currently, CDPH is encouraging individuals to self-evaluate risk for Mpox infection and prioritizing JYNNEOS vaccine for individuals at high risk. While there is currently adequate vaccine supply, there are no longer "eligibility" criteria, and vaccine providers can offer and provide vaccine to any patients who MAY be at risk, and persons who request vaccination should receive it without having to attest to specific risk factors.
Based on verbal self-attestation, individuals who can receive the 2-dose series include:
- Individuals requesting vaccination
- Individuals who self-evaluate risk for possible Mpox infection
Jynneos vaccine should be considered a priority for individuals in the groups listed here:
- Anyone living with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV).
- Any man or trans person who has sex with men or trans persons
- People who use or are eligible for HIV PrEP
- Sex workers
- Sexual partners of the above groups
- People who have had direct skin-to-skin contact with one or more people AND who know others in their community that have had Mpox infection
- People who have been diagnosed with a bacterial sexually transmitted disease (e.g., chlamydia, gonorrhea, syphilis) in the past 3 months
- People who anticipate experiencing the above risks
- Persons at risk for Mpox exposure who are:
- Incarcerated
- Currently experiencing homelessness or intermittent homelessness
- Living in residential substance use treatment centers or participating in substance use treatment programs
- Local considerations also include the groups below:
- Specific laboratory workers who directly process laboratory specimens for Mpox testing
- Healthcare works who collect Mpox Specimens during patient encounters, as part of their work assignment.
- People who work or volunteer at a sex club, bathhouse, or sauna.
- Cisgender men, transgender men, transgender women, and nonbinary people who are having sex (including chemsex, group sex, anonymous sex, or attending sex-on-premises events) with other cisgender men, transgender men, transgender women, and/or nonbinary people. This includes:
- A gay man who is sexually active with one or more partners.
- A bisexual man who is sexually active with one or more partners.
- A same gender loving man who is sexually active with one or more partners.
- A non-binary person who is sexually active with one or more partners
Considerations: Persons living with HIV or other immune-compromising conditions may be at higher risk for severe outcomes and should be a high priority for vaccination if they have exposure risk as listed above. Patients who have active MpoxV rash or lesions should not be vaccinated for MpoxV, instead testing should be navigated along with supportive home care, and evaluation for needed treatment. If you have Mpox specific symptoms or are currently under isolation for Mpox please do not attend the vaccine clinics.
